Ship simulation

While comparing options and developing concepts for port layouts it is important to understand how ships respond to control from the bridge under different wind and wave condition when approaching or leaving port.

In addition to using established design codes and standards we usually seek the opinion of a qualified master mariner when comparing scheme options. And now we are also able to run the desktop computer simulation suite 'SHIPMA' in-house, as a further aid to the planning and design process.

SHIPMA uses accurately modeled ships’ characteristics in a fast time computer simulation that will allow a named vessel to be berthed or to leave port under specified wind and wave conditions and will permit selection of the most suitable arrangements for berth alignment, turning circle and approach channel.

Before selecting the final layout we can also use 'real time' ship simulation. The simulator may be driven by professional ships masters and pilots to confirm the usability of a design.
