Marine resources are under increasing demand from population
growth and development worldwide. Coastal development is immensely
varied in both scale and nature ranging from port expansion,
coastal defence, land reclamation and urban growth for residential,
tourism and industrial purposes. Such claims on the coastal and
marine environments are expected to continue as population growth
is projected to increase. So development of coasts presents
difficult challenges for recourse managers at the community,
national and international levels.
Mott MacDonald provides innovative and sustainable solutions for
various environmental projects. We undertake environmental impact
assessments (EIAs) to assist our clients in meeting the
requirements of key national and international legislation set out
for planning and designing new develop-ments and for
maintaining/rehabilitating existing works in coastal and marine
environments. An environmental impact assessment, conducted as part
of the planning process, identifies potential problems in time to
allow for modifications to preliminary engineering designs, saving
time and costs.
We provide advice and supervision for the spectrum of EIA services
including:
- EIAs and targeted EIAs (eg. for pollution or thermal
control)
- Screening and scoping assessments
- Initial environmental evaluations
- Environmental management plans
- Environmental monitoring programmes
