Cruise ship terminals

Ocho Rios Bay, Jamaica

Immense growth in the cruise ship industry in recent years has prompted development of terminals in many coastal cities throughout the world. As a result, cruise ship terminal design is evolving from ‘adhoc’ development to major capital commitments integral to the host city’s economic development. New terminals are being built both in the traditional cruising grounds and in non-traditional markets, as cruise lines seek a variety of itineraries and more operational flexibility.

Our portfolio of cruise ship related developments has grown accordingly and includes projects from Europe to the Caribbean.

Cruise terminals often present a unique range of challenges such as:

  • Trend of increasing vessel size carrying up to 3,500 passengers and exceeding 100,000 grt
  • Cruise ship access to remote ports often requiring vessel navigation simulation studies to ensure safe maritime access
  • Transportation requirements and kerbside capacity affected by the instantaneous arrival of a high number of passengers
  • Passenger loading bridges providing ship to shore access
  • Terminal buildings and baggage handling facility
  • Security and customs requirements
We have the experience and are equipped with the expertise to manage all facets of cruise terminal development.
